«The number of courses with over 500 CAD points at NUI Galway has almost doubled since last year. The CAD offerings published this afternoon highlighted the interests of the 2019 class, with legal and STEM topics continuing to be popular at NUI Galway. Scientific programs that have seen a significant increase in CAD cut-off points include biotechnology (473 CAD points) and biopharmaceutical chemistry (510 CAD points). Graduates of the Law and Business program have a variety of career paths available, depending on the specialization they choose in their degrees. All graduates will be well equipped to work in a corporate law environment. Meanwhile, demand for biomedical sciences (533 points) and biomedical engineering (519 points) continued to be strong. The largest increases in points were recorded in the fields of civil engineering, electronics and computer science, biopharmaceutical chemistry and energy systems technology. Sarah Geraghty, Head of Student Recruitment and Outreach at NUI Galway, said: «NUI Galway has seen a significant increase in CAD points, reflecting a continued growing interest in the University and its programmes. The flagship BComm (Global Experience) commercial agreement continues to attract strong demand and amounts to 509 CAD points. Students who have earned CAD credits for a Bachelor of Engineering program at NUI Galway, but have not met the mandatory requirement in mathematics, will have the opportunity to take a mathematics aptitude exam on August 20. Interest in all of NUI Galway`s legal programmes has also increased significantly, including the new 2019 Law and Human Rights degree with 510 CAD credits. The four-year Bachelor of Laws and Business degree allows students to combine the study of a comprehensive law degree with major business disciplines such as business and commercial law, accounting, economics, digital management and business, and analysis. Graduates understand not only the legal process, but also the fundamentals of business.

This prepares graduates to work as lawyers in a corporate environment. In the third year of this course, students have the opportunity to spend the academic year doing a professional internship or studying abroad. Students have the opportunity to apply for a professional internship at a leading law firm, corporate organization, public sector organization, or any other appropriate legal internship. Studying abroad is highly recommended for students who choose to study a language (Spanish, Legal French or Legal German) and are encouraged to study at our partner universities in Germany, France and Spain. We have also partnered with a number of leading universities that teach English in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, China, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, India, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands and the United States of America. Outside of STEM subjects, podiatry, a degree in health sciences, rose 43 points to 434 CAD points. Mooting is a simulated experience in the courtroom. The module is delivered by a taught component consisting of lectures and an active component in which students participate in practical seminars and a mock trial. Alumni described participation in the debate as «transformative.» During the second year, students further develop their skills with modules such as «Mooting» that help develop communication and advocacy skills. In addition to the core law modules, students can choose from a wide range of elective modules in accounting, economics, digital business, management and a language. In addition to third-year professional internship opportunities, final-year students have the opportunity to apply for a limited number of national and international summer internships offered on a competitive basis.
