Queens Legal Services provides high-quality civil law services, social work support and advocacy to low-income Queens communities. Founded in 1967, our more than 65 employees support more than 5,000 people each year and reach thousands more through outreach and legal education in the community. QLS advocates for practice in many areas, including: The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) provides direct legal services to taxpayers who have tax disputes with the Internal Revenue Service or the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Our work includes tax disputes, audits, refund claims, tax processing, etc. We also provide community training, technical support to community organizations, engage in legislative and administrative advocacy and conflicts of influence, and work with statewide advocacy groups on issues affecting low-income New Yorkers. MOBILIZATION FOR JUSTICE, formerly MFY Legal Services, provides low-income New Yorkers throughout New York City with free legal assistance to resolve legal issues related to housing. Seizure; civil rights, disability rights and rights related to aging; Bankruptcy, taxes, consumers, employment, government benefits, immigration and family care.
Through these services, we prevent homelessness, help seniors and people with disabilities live independently, stabilize families, maintain and increase income, and eliminate racial disparities. Legal Services NYC fights poverty and fights for racial, social and economic justice for low-income New Yorkers. Our neighborhood offices and proximity locations help more than 100,000 New Yorkers each year. Our services are free of charge. LSNYC will never charge its clients legal representation fees.
