From 1972 to 1990, the First Aid Badge of Merit was required for the first class rank. After 1990, this provision was replaced by a number of requirements to demonstrate knowledge of advanced first aid techniques, including CPR. A sixth Badge of Merit was added to the star rank requirement at that time to maintain the total requirement of 21 Badges of Merit, and first aid is still one of the mandatory merit badges for Eagle Scout. [4] A Scout Leader cannot add or remove promotion requirements. Life was originally inferior to Star and originally required the acquisition of five specific badges of merit for health and fitness (first aid, rescue, public health, personal health, and athletics). The ranks were changed in the 1920s after it was decided to recognize the five-pointed star as a symbol of the five insignia needed to earn this rank. The heart of life became a symbol of achievement in health and fitness, as the first aid badge of merit was required for life and eagle until 1972, when it became mandatory for all grades above first class. The following additional requirements apply to boys who are enrolled in the Wish Program or as Sea Scouts. The Eagle Scout Review Committee is convened by the council or district. The program uses a number of medals and patches as emblems. The Scout rank insignia consists of a simple fleur-de-lis, which symbolizes a compass pin. The needle points the scout in the right direction, that is, forward and upward. [11] The Tenderfoot badge takes the fleur-de-lys from the Scout badge and adds two stars and an eagle with an American shield. The stars symbolize truth and knowledge; The eagle and shield symbolize freedom and the will to defend them. The second-class badge features a scroll with the Scout motto BE PREPARED, with the ends facing upwards and a knotted rope suspended from below. The knot reminds every Scout to remember the Scout slogan «Have a good ride every day», and the inverted ends of the roller symbolize happiness in service. The First Class badge combines elements of the Tenderfoot and Second Class badges. For many years, the first-class badge was used as the official emblem of the BSA. The star has a first-class symbol on a five-pointed yellow star and initially displayed the five merit badges required to earn rank.

Life has a first-class emblem on a red heart and initially symbolized the first aid and health badges required by the rank. Now this means that the ideals of Scouting have become a part of the life and character of Scouting. [12] You may notice that these descriptions of troop leadership include expectations for presence. These are not requirements or requirements in the troops to refuse a promotion. But they can be used to show young people what kind of time is typical of a job. A scout can work on the requirements for the Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks at the same time, but each rank must be earned consecutively. The badge is awarded when the youth demonstrates a rudimentary knowledge of Scouting skills and ideals, such as tying a square knot and knowing the Scouts oath, law, motto and slogan. [14] If a Scout has met all the requirements for rank, he or she must appear before a Board of Revisors.
