Suny Purchase Dance Requirements

Admission to the Dance Conservatory is hotly contested. The hypothesis is mainly based on your dance audition and performances: Conservatory of Dance students in all concentrations must maintain a grade of C or higher in all required dance classes, with the exception of the Senior project. A student who receives grades of C or less for two or more semesters may no longer be eligible for scholarship funds and performance opportunities and may be expelled from the conservatory. «The State University of New York at Purchase is home to one of the most prestigious dance programs in the country and offers a rigorous college dance education at a significantly lower cost than most private universities. All students enter the conservatory program in the field of dance performance. They can then stay in the dance performance or apply for one of the following specializations: ballet, dance composition (choreography) or dance production.

Concentrations aim to satisfy a student`s talent, passion, and commitment to a particular field. Concentration decisions are approved by the Faculty of Dance. The BFA program at the Conservatory of Dance provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the world of professional dance. Purchase alumni currently perform with many of the world`s leading modern contemporary dance and ballet companies. «SUNY Purchase, home to one of the most prestigious dance conservatories in the country… The audition class is led by a member of the Purchase dance faculty. Students are observed by a panel of 2-3 faculties. The faculty then selects the students to present a 90-second solo. The Dance Conservatory at Purchase College`s School of the Arts is one of the few conservatories in the world where you can learn what it means to be a dance professional. The possibility offered to individuals committed to the full realization of themselves as artists is incomparable. If you are injured before your scheduled hearing, you can postpone your hearing to a later date. If your recovery period exceeds the last scheduled hearing date (March 5, 2022), an extension may be granted upon request. After the lesson, the audition jury will recall the dancers who will present their solos in the afternoon. Following the hearing, the faculty will conduct a short interview. This part of the audition takes place on campus, in a dance studio with peers. Students apply for the dance production concentration in the second semester of their second year of study and before the second jury. The grade obtained in Dance Production Course I, the results of the second-year jury, as well as the general aptitude and interest in dance production determine a student`s acceptance or rejection. First-year and second-year students complete the core curriculum. Tradition and innovation are in conversation at the Dance Conservatory. Our distinguished speakers and renowned guest artists offer rigorous professional training in ballet and modern techniques, as well as various forms of contemporary dance. Our four-year composition program encourages young artists to imagine their individual choreographic voices, while our extensive somatic offerings nourish the whole being. An in-depth study of improvisation, music, anatomy, production, and dance history provides a comprehensive introduction to the world of professional dance. Completion is contingent upon successful completion of the course requirements, which include at least 30 credits in liberal arts.

Students must meet all general study requirements as well as conservatory requirements for graduation. Please submit your dance: title, choreographer, composer and any additional information you would like to share with us.
