Biblical Marriage Vs Legal Marriage

Governments that sink into socialism begin to enact laws that discourage Christian morality and ethics. The citizens of these governments are beginning to avoid marriage altogether. Socialists/communists hate Christianity because Christianity and capitalism complement each other, just as atheism and socialism/communism complement each other. Once married, they must submit to the laws of the state regarding marriage and its dissolution, but they are first bound by God`s laws regarding marriage and its dissolution. Therefore, they must first have biblical reasons for divorcing before divorcing. Simple divorce under the laws of the state does not exempt the believer from the laws of God that govern marriage and divorce. The result of a legal divorce without a biblical basis would be a legally divorced person who is still married to his or her spouse in the eyes of God, which is why Jesus said that those who divorce will be guilty of adultery. For the Christian, there is a richness associated with the wedding ceremony and marriage that can only be fully understood, appreciated and appreciated in the context of the Body of Christ. Those of us who know Jesus as the coming Bridegroom have something to celebrate in marriage that unbelievers cannot yet understand. In addition, 1 Corinthians 7:2 indicates that sex before marriage is immoral. If sexual intercourse causes a couple to marry, it cannot be considered immoral, because the couple was considered married at the time they had sex. There is absolutely no biblical basis for an unmarried couple to have sex and then declare themselves married, thus declaring all future sexual relations moral and pious.

The Bible tells us that He founded marriage from the beginning of creation. In other words, he did it before he founded the Church. And marriage can be meaningful and beneficial for unbelievers. For this reason, governments have every interest in preserving the institution of marriage as it has traditionally been understood. If you have a spiritual ceremony without making it legal, can the woman still take your last name? Interestingly, this verse links the idea of marriage to legal practices. In Romans 13, Paul tells us to submit to the ruling authorities. In other words, we must obey the laws of the land because God brought these people to power. Then he writes in verse 7: «Give to all what they are entitled to: the tax, to whom the tax is due; Custom, to whom custom; Fear of whom; Honor to whom honor. Very well written. I hadn`t thought about the comparison between a church receiving a 501c3 and a believing couple receiving a marriage certificate.

If marriage licenses are not necessary for a real marriage, why does someone get them? Tax exemptions for churches and legal benefits for marriages can be very valuable for many reasons. It`s almost outrageous to get married in the U.S. without first getting a marriage license, as the more than 1,000 state and federal benefits incentivize the use of state licenses. In fact, these benefits are so coveted that homosexuals are fighting very successful battles to win the right to legal marriage in the United States (although the prize they value most is the total cultural acceptance of homosexuality [including moral] as a normative way of life). With or without its spiritual component, marriage is vital for the survival of healthy families. And this is important for human society as a whole. In other words, Jesus believes that marriage is an institution ordained by God. And when Isaac and Rebecca got married, they made a commitment to each other recorded in Genesis 24. And when the Bible says, «Isaac took Rebecca to the tent,» it`s just an indication that they got married. Well, it`s true, there is no mention of a certificate or paperwork. They didn`t even go to the courthouse.

What for? Well, because marriage is an institution of God, not the invention of the state. And that`s why no legal document is needed. Today, in the United States of America, many will probably say that believers in Jesus Christ cannot be «spiritually married» without being legally married under the laws of one of the fifty states. The reality is that a marriage in god`s eyes requires no license from any human government. When a man and a woman unite first through commitment and then through sexual relations, they are actually married in the eyes of God. The Churches must welcome them into the family of God in order to adore them, to be in fraternal communion and to participate in the work of the Church. So why should a Christian marry legally under the laws of a government? While we here at Focus on the Family believe that marriage can only reach its full potential in Christ, we also recognize that it is fundamental to the human condition. As John Piper points out, «Cultural means may vary, but the principle is the same. Stand up. Be public about the importance of having your conjugal relationship culturally and legally recognized as such. Ruth 4:9-12 shows that this is especially true of marriage when Boa seeks witnesses to guarantee her right to marry Ruth, the Moabitess. There, the witnesses even pronounce a marriage blessing on them.

However, marriage is older than civil governments. The first covenant in man`s history is the covenant of creation (God`s covenant of salvation is the first covenant that dates back to before creation, including mankind). Marriage is part of the Covenant of Creation. God introduced marriage when He said Adam needed a proper partner, so He created a woman from Adam`s rib, suggesting that a woman should come next to a man and be his helper — ideally for life. A spiritual marriage is also legal under God`s law, which is not recognized by all people, although all people are held accountable for God`s laws. Therefore, it is possible to enter into a biblical marriage (legal according to God`s laws and spiritually) without civilized marriage in any of the fifty states – after all, people have been marrying for thousands of years without a license from the state of California.
