Seniors with legal issues that threaten their independence The NNJLS also offers specialized programs to meet the legal needs of veterans; Seniors; survivors of domestic violence; survivors of sexual assault; Students; Immigrant; people living with HIV or AIDS; persons who were previously detained and now face legal obstacles to their reintegration; people affected by homelessness; and poor residents with federal income tax (IRS) problems. Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) serves Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties, the state`s most culturally and economically diverse territory. With offices in Hackensack, Paterson and Jersey City, NNJLS is centrally located and provides full legal representation to low-income, elderly and disabled residents who have civil law issues and cannot afford a private lawyer. NNJLS focuses on four core areas of civil law: housing, consumers, family and utilities. These are the areas where our clients are most likely to develop legal issues that they can`t solve on their own. With experienced lawyers, NNJLS ensures that clients do not lose their home due to eviction or foreclosure. they are not harassed by debt collection agencies or victims of unfair commercial practices; that they and their families have fair custody and support in the event of separation or divorce; and that they can receive the public benefits and other income support they need to maintain their independence and meet their daily needs. People with serious legal problems who couldn`t afford a private attorney Northeast New Jersey Legal Services provides free legal advice to residents of poverty-stricken Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and the homeless. Due to limited resources, we cannot serve everyone who comes to us for help. We do not handle criminal matters, car accidents or personal injuries, commercial litigation, speeding tickets, workers` compensation or property closures.
