A tort combines duty, negligence, damage, and causation into a principle that allows a claim to recover pecuniary damages for injury (usually bodily injury). This balance must go hand in hand with the recognition that our justice system is not blameless and virtuous. Bottom eaters use it to illegally make profits for themselves and their families. Lawyers are sometimes as guilty as laymen. We must remain vigilant to ensure that our legal systems focus on truth and justice, not on corruption and fraud.

The attacks, on the other hand, come from the dark corners around us. But it is also a huge temptation of moral bankruptcy. A manufactured injury, amplified by shady doctors, a claim that cannot be refuted, can be extremely profitable. It is not difficult to stage a fake wreck or a mythical slide and fall at a major retailer. This creates distrust among adjusters and their advocates, even with respect to valid claims.
